India’s first ever Cotton Brand




On World’s Cotton Day that is on 7th October,2020 India got it’s first ever cotton brand ‘KASTURI’ and logo.

World’s Cotton Day was first observed on 7th October, 2019 to celebrate the advantages of cotton, ranging from its qualities as a natural fibre to benefits that people obtain from its production, trade and consumption.

Ministry of Textile Smriti Irani launched the brand and logo for Indian Cotton.

Indian’s premium cotton will be known as ‘KASTURI’ in the world cotton trade. It represents the Whiteness, Softness, Brightness, Lustre, Purity, Uniqueness and Indianness.

India is the world’s 2nd largest producer of cotton and world’s biggest consumer of cotton. India produces 51% of the total organic cotton production of the world. Total of 6.00 million ton of cotton is produced in India every year.

Ministry of Textiles through APEDA under Ministry of Commerce and Industry has prescribed a certification system for organic Cotton.

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) made ever highest Minimum Support Price (MSP) operation for cotton. CCI has opened 430 procurement centres in all cotton growing states and payments are being made digitally to farmers’ account within 72 hours.

Cott-Ally – a mobile App is developed by CCI which provides the news regarding weather condition.

This is a huge step taken by the government to given a name, a recognition to India cotton in the world. This would also help farmers to increase their profit in cotton production, as cotton is one of the principal commercial crop of India; over 6.00 million framers earn their livelihood by cotton.
