WORLD STUDENT’S DAY




15th October is the birthday anniversary of Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam well known as ‘Missile Man of India’. He was a brilliant India aerospace scientist, an author, a politician among many other roles that he played. He served as the 11th President of India and was widely regrade as the ‘People’s President’.

‘Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace’ is the theme of World Student’s Day. This theme highlights the centrality of development ambitions for our collectively with humanitarian objectives.

Dr. Kalam was the author of three books and recipient of several awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna, Veer Savarkar Award, Ramanujan Award. Many educational institutes, scientific institutions, and some locations were named after his death. He had also contributed as a scientist and President of India.

Some of his contribution are:


· Dr. Kalam's contribution in making India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle.


· Dr. Kalam lead the development of Indigenous Guided Missiles at DRDO.


· Dr. Kalam converted India into a nuclear weapon state by guiding multiple nuclear tests. Pokhran II explosions was supervised by him.


· Dr. Kalam was the project director of Project Valiant and Project Devil.


· Dr Kalam was involvement in India's Light Combat Aircraft project.


· Dr Kalam propelled the development of light-weight capillaries to air people with motor disorders.


· Dr Kalam and Dr Soma Raju developed a tablet to track the health of the underprivileged and eventually, help them.


· The 'Kalam-Raju' stent was developed to dilate constricted coronary arteries and help save people's lives.


World Student Day was first celebrated in 2010 in United Nations on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday when he was 79 years old. The day is celebrated to honour the most loved President of India. He studied physics and aerospace engineering and spent next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the DRDO and ISRO.

He played many roles in his life but his favourite job was teaching and that is how he wanted the world to remember him. His death also happened while doing what he loved the most. He was delivering a lecture to the students of IIM Shillong when he got a stroke and passed away on July 27, 2015.
